At first glance, the images (usually arranged in series) of photographer and Conceptual artist Ralf Peters (*1960 in Lüneburg) appear familiar, but then disturbing details become evident, revealing them to be deliberately aesthetic renderings. In the Petrol Series, for instance, logos and lettering have been removed, while “idyllic” hotel complexes turn out on closer examination to be constructs always made up of the same pieces of scenery differently arranged. Other photographs, by contrast, are completely unprocessed and are rather reminiscent of abstract paintings. The volume presents 198 of Ralf Peters’ works and provides an overview of all the artist’s series from 1995 up to the present day.
