BOOTH #119
Diana Lowenstein Gallery presents a group of artists and artworks addressing a current approach to abstraction. Unlike the era of Modernist abstraction that often framed the realms of human psychology, these works explore notions of scale, matter and spirit that speculate on limits beyond the human. Cosmologies, materials, and atmospheres are depicted in the acknowledgement of our era - the Anthropocene, where we realize that we are not in control of all things…
The booth takes its departure from two late works from masters that were transitioning from the earlier Modern to the Post-modern condition: “Mire G 181 (Bolero),” 1984 by Jean Dubuffet. Each work is suggestive of space and perception beyond the picture plane of their canvas. Thus, it is their limits – representative of the frame – that bind the works to our 3D world. Additional works exhibited explore these concepts analogously through painting and sculpture.
